More than one million supporters of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva gathered on Rio de Janeiro's beach on the eve of a presidential runoff, according to The Guardian. The rally aimed to boost Lula's campaign against far-right candidate Flávio Bolsonaro.

Nearly 159 million Brazilians are scheduled to vote in the runoff on Sunday. The two candidates are tied in polls, The Guardian reports, after Bolsonaro won the first round on October 4 with 47 percent to Lula's 45 percent.

The race has tightened ahead of the second vote. Lula is attempting what The Guardian describes as a "historic election fightback" after losing ground in the initial contest.
