Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese honoured troops who served in Afghanistan at a Canberra commemoration on Sunday, marking the 25th anniversary of the country's military involvement in the conflict. Albanese spoke at the Australian War Memorial event, describing the campaign as a fight for "who we are as a people."
Hundreds of veterans, family members and dignitaries attended the ceremony. Ben Roberts-Smith, Australia's most decorated living soldier, was present at the event. Roberts-Smith is currently accused of war crimes related to his service.
The commemoration marked a quarter-century since Australia began its involvement in the Afghanistan conflict.
