At least two people died and five were injured after a rock formation collapsed at an open-air museum in Göreme, a town in Turkey's Cappadocia region, on Thursday afternoon. One of the distinctive cone-shaped rock spires known as fairy chimneys disintegrated near the entrance to the museum, a Unesco World Heritage site, around 15:15 local time, according to local media reports. Justice Minister Akın Gürlek said the victims' bodies had been recovered from under the rubble and that a search and rescue operation was continuing, warning there could be "other potential victims" still trapped. Nevşehir provincial Governor Hüseyin Kök also confirmed bodies had been recovered. Local media reported the collapse may have been triggered by heavy rain, though the cause was not immediately confirmed.
