Hurricane Simon and Tropical Storm Rachel have killed at least five people along Mexico's Pacific coast, with damage spanning infrastructure, homes and transportation networks across multiple states.

A 71-year-old man died in Chilpancingo, in the southern state of Guerrero, when a wall collapsed during Hurricane Simon, according to Guerrero Governor Evelyn Salgado. The two storms struck the region with enough force to down trees and electricity poles, block roads and flood homes across affected areas.

Security forces deployed helicopters to rescue dozens of people trapped by rising water and storm damage. The storms caused widespread flash flooding that disrupted basic services and stranded residents in multiple locations along the Pacific coast.

The source material does not specify the locations or circumstances of the other four deaths, the full extent of infrastructure damage, the number of people rescued, which states were most severely affected beyond Guerrero, or current weather conditions as the storms moved inland or offshore.
