An eight-year-old girl was seriously injured in a wolf attack at Johannismühle wildlife park in Brandenburg, Germany, on Wednesday. She was inside an enclosure with a staff member and two other children when the attack occurred. Police said the precise circumstances remain under investigation.
The girl suffered head injuries from at least one animal, according to German newspaper Bild. She was transported to hospital by helicopter. No one else was injured.
Bild reported the incident happened before the park opened at 10:00 local time and suggested the girl may have been part of a special visit. Johannismühle offers small group tours that include activities such as feeding wolves or petting llamas.
The park, located in Baruth/Mark south of Berlin, keeps grey and Arctic wolves alongside brown bears and lynx. It has closed temporarily and is scheduled to reopen on 2 November.
