Unusually warm air from the US midwest brought temperatures near 23C (73F) to New York and Boston this week, roughly 7-10C above early November norms. A low pressure system dragged warm air from the Gulf of Mexico northward along its eastern side, spreading the heat into parts of eastern Canada where temperatures exceeded 20C, about 10-15C above average for the season.

Severe thunderstorms struck Florida, Oklahoma and Colorado, disrupting midterm voting. A tornado in Keyes, Oklahoma caused extensive damage and forced relocation of a polling station, though no deaths were reported. Flood and evacuation warnings were issued across multiple states. Officials have requested federal funding assistance for damage to homes and infrastructure.

The low pressure area will drift eastward, allowing temperatures to return to seasonal levels.
